Robust Computation of Foot Points on Implicitly Defined Curves

چکیده
We introduce a new method for computing the foot point of a given point on an implicitly defined curve and compare it with existing local and global methods. As demonstrated in this paper, the implicit representation of curves and surfaces is useful not only for solving intersection problems, but also for foot point computation. §

Computations with Algebraic Curves
We present a variety of computational techniques dealing with algebraic curves both in the plane and in space. Our main results are polynomial time algorithms (1) to compute the genus of plane algebraic curves, (2) to compute the rational parametric equations for implicitly defined rational plane algebraic curves of arbitrary degree, (3) to compute birational mappings between points on irreduci...
متن کاملFat Arcs for Implicitly Defined Curves
We present an algorithm generating a collection of fat arcs which bound the zero set of a given bivariate polynomial in Bernstein– Bézier representation. We demonstrate the performance of the algorithm (in particular the convergence rate) and we apply the results to the computation of intersection curves between implicitly defined algebraic surfaces and rational parametric surfaces.
متن کاملA robust engineering approach for wind turbine blade profile aeroelastic computation
Wind turbines are important devices that extract clean energy from wind flow. The efficiency of wind turbines should be examined under various working conditions in order to estimate off-design performance. Numerous aerodynamic and structural research works have been carried out to compute aeroelastic effects on wind turbines. Most of them suffer from either the simplicity of the modelling ...
متن کاملModeling and 3D object reconstruction by implicitly defined surfaces with sharp features
We propose a new method for describing sharp features (i.e., edges and vertices) of implicitly defined surfaces. We consider an initial implicitly defined surface, which is represented as the zero set of a C1 smooth scalar field with non–vanishing gradients. In order to represent sharp edges and vertices, this surface is augmented by adding new types of implicit representations, called edge des...
متن کاملFitting Implicitly Defined Curves to Unorganized Points with Sharp Features
In order to represent and reconstruct sharp features (i.e., corners) by an implicitly defined curve, we add so–called corner detector functions, which are special radial basis functions, to the function defining the initial curve. The parameters controlling them are automatically adjusted by applying an evolution process.
